Scholastic Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is taking place in the CJP Learning Commons from Monday, November 21 through Friday, November 25. Each class has an opportunity to visit the book fair at least once to purchase books themselves. The book fair will also be open on Thursday, November 24th during parent conferences from 4:45 pm – 7:00 pm and on Friday, November 25th from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm so that parents have an opportunity to shop as well. This is a huge fundraiser for CJP’s library as it enables the school to purchase so many new books.

Each teacher has put together a classroom wish list. Be sure to check out their lists and consider purchasing a book for your students classroom.

You can also shop through our virtual book fair. Orders will be sent home with students in early December.

We are also still looking for some parent volunteers (with valid police clearance) to assist during the week. If you can share your time with us please sign up at www.CJPPA.ca/volunteer.

Thank you for your support! We hope to see you there.

CJP Inclusive and Naturalized Playground – Thank you!

We are extremely excited to have officially celebrated the opening of our new Inclusive and Naturalized Playground Project together!

It has been interesting and exciting navigating the past three years and it has truly taken the contributions of the whole community to get us to this point. Your financial and time commitments, words of encouragement, and pure excitement have continually pushed this project forward. Thank you!

We would like to thank and recognize our lead donors and grantors:

All donations and contributions made to our project, big or small, are so valued. It was through your generosity that we were able to accomplish such a lofty goal. Thank you!

We also extend our gratitude to our vendors BDI Play Designs and Year Round Landscape for helping us to turn our dreams into a beautiful reality.

Thank you to TC Energy, Carmacks Enterprises, and PCL Construction for supporting us with your volunteers and to everyone in our community who came out to volunteer or feed our volunteers during build week. We’re also grateful to the Calgary Foundation and the City of Calgary’s Ward Community Event Fund for supporting our build week and opening celebration.

We are so appreciative of the support, guidance, and enthusiasm we have received from the CJP staff, teachers, students, and administration over the past few years. We loved seeing how you incorporated this project into classroom learning and especially the pictures of you all enjoying the playground!

The advice and recommendations that we received from Sean Crump of Universal Access, and Vision Loss Rehabilitation Canada were crucial during the planning stages of the playground. We are proud to have been able to incorporate many of their suggestions to make the playground fun for those of all abilities.

Lastly, we need to acknowledge the blood, sweat and tears put into this project by the Playground Committee: Lindsay, Susan, Martina, Candace, Amy, Melisa, Todd, Kevin, Farah, Zoe, Meagan, Marcia and Shannon. It is through your dedication and vision that we accomplished all of this!

Over the past three years, our driving force was imagining the potential for the playground and Discovery Garden as a place for us to gather and connect as a community. Seeing everyone celebrate and enjoy the space is everything we had hoped for and more. We look forward to playing and connecting with you all for many years to come!

Let’s Celebrate the Playground

The CJP Inclusive & Naturalized Playground Project is wrapping up! Students are exploring the revitalized Discovery Garden, classes are learning in the outdoor classroom and the playground is seeing so much action as kids challenge themselves and discover new ways to play together.

Please join us after school today at 4:00 pm to acknowledge and thank our community who has come together to make this project a reality through financial, in-kind, volunteer and moral support.

Help yourself to hot chocolate and a cupcake as we officially open the space with a ribbon cutting ceremony. We hope you will celebrate with us!

Check out these time lapse videos of the Discovery Garden revitalization and the playground removal, preparation, and construction. Thank you again to everyone who made this project happen!

Our Amazing Playground Volunteers!

Have you seen it?! The playground equipment has been installed! In just four days, our playground space went from a blank canvas to this amazing play space.

With the support of BDI Play Designs Inc. (thank you Donovan and Forest!), our playground was built with over 150 volunteers cumulating to over 1,000 volunteers hours! We want to extend our gratitude to CJP parents and family members, neighbours, Sunbelt Rentals, Miter Renovations, TC Energy, Carmacks Enterprises, PCL Construction, and Calgary Foundation for generously sharing their time and resources. Many members of our dedicated Playground Committee were on site building everyday, all day. Your commitment and leadership has been inspiring!

Each day, community members and CJP families kept our volunteer builders energized with snacks and refreshments. Thank you for showing your support with such delicious treats. Lunches, snacks, water and coffee were also kindly donated by Subway, Brentwood Community Association, TC Energy, PCL Construction, FreshCo Brentwood, Brentwood Co-op and Joyful Java. Thank you so much for taking care of our volunteers. A couple of our neighbouring restaurants also offered discounts to our volunteers during build week. Thank you 8Mile Pizza and Bro’s To Go! Bro’s To Go also generously donated five gift cards which we used in a daily draw of our volunteers. Congratulations: Dennis S., Jen L., Mauricio R., Giancarlo D., and Mike H.!

Check out our amazing volunteers at work. This playground is a reality because of you! We’re looking forward to celebrating with you at our Opening Ceremony in October.

It’s time to build our playground!

Our loyal and joyful playground of over 20 years was removed last week. This is the excavated site, ready for our new inclusive playground to be built!

Thank you to the CBE for removing the playground equipment, to Mini Dig Corp. for removing the gravel and excavating the site and to Miter Renovations & Design for providing security fencing.

Work on the Discovery Garden begins the week of August 29th and further site preparation for the playground begins the week of September 5th. Then we will be ready for our volunteer supported build from September 13-17. We still need volunteers for Wednesday, Friday and Saturday! Please visit our Sign Up page to share your availability. We’re also lining up the support of local restaurants, shops and community members to nourish our dedicated volunteers.

Please reach out if you can volunteer or support our volunteers through a food donation. Email us at cjp.playground@gmail.com.

CJP PA – In the News!

We’re so proud of the work that’s being done to build the playground and revitalize the Discovery Garden! We’re so close to reaching our financial goal so we wanted to celebrate how far we have come thanks to the support of the CJP community and also ask for continued support from the greater community to get us through to completion.
